Mattias Adolfsson is a Swedish artist who created these incredibly detailed pen & ink sketches of surrealist architecture, machines, animals, and spacecraft.  The illustrations are so intricate that I often find myself staring at them for long periods of time and discovering new details each time I look. I have a feeling each piece probably takes several days of back-breaking concentration to complete.

Most of the drawings are stand-alone pieces of art, but he has completed work for The New York Times, Work style Magazine, Amtrak, and Wired.

Mattias has a LARGE collection of work, just type his name into google, and you’ll see the whole gamut (or just check his website).

Also, you can find a cool book of some of his illustrations which are printed onto Moleskin HERE.

Haunting Drawings from Eunjung Shin

Abominable creatures, mutilated children, and spooky forests are all part of the nightmarish surrealism created by Korean artist, Eunjung Shin. I really love the dark style of pen & ink.  It works to conceive an appropriately gloomy atmosphere in each of the illustrations.

If you liked these, check out more work at indivisualplay.

7 Year Maze

maze-6

For 7 years, a diligent Japanese custodian worked on the maze you see above. Twitter user @Kya7y (and daughter of the artist) found the drawing recently and posted it for the world to see.  Apparently, it was completed almost 30 years ago in his spare time using some pen and ink on A1 size paper (841 x 594 mm).

What is maybe most impressive, however, is that the drawing was made with very little planning.

He simply drew the maze as it popped into his mind.

I hope this is sold as a print some day.

I’ll hang it on my wall, and spend the next 7 years trying to solve it.
