For all your Space needs…

To The Far East

July 1st, 2012 | Brain, Robot, Space

Greetings RSB Faithful

To those of you who don’t know, today, I will be traveling by aeroplane across this Earth, 9243 miles to be exact!, to the land of beaches, jungles, and temples for the next 7 weeks.

Hopefully, I’ll see some things like this:

For those of you who are concerned for the future of the site, HAVE NO FEAR, RobotSpaceBrain will be FULLY operational in my time abroad.  Yes, I mean that, and ideally, I’ll be coming back in August with a renewed passion for giving you the quality scientific and artistic inspiration you’ve hopefully come to expect.

Live Long & Prosper,

-RSB

ISS Star Trails

ISS Star Trails 1

These are some pretty awesome time lapse photos taken from the International Space Station by Flight Engineer, Don Pettit.  Here’s an excerpt from the photographer:

“My star trail images are made by taking a time exposure of about 10 to 15 minutes. However, with modern digital cameras, 30 seconds is about the longest exposure possible, due to electronic detector noise effectively snowing out the image.

To achieve the longer exposures I do what many amateur astronomers do.

I take multiple 30-second exposures, then ‘stack’ them using imaging software, thus producing the longer exposure.

You would think he might be able to get his hands on a long exposure camera, but oh well, these turned out great.

‘Lazuli’ by Beach House

June 12th, 2012 | Space

This is a new song titled ‘Lazuli’ from the band, Beach House.  The song was recorded down in Tornillo, Texas at the Sonic Ranch (which looks like a pretty awesome studio by the way).  Apparently, they chose to record in West Texas after being captivated by the area while resting there during a tour.

“Magic Fly” by Space

June 6th, 2012 | Space

Magic Fly by Space

My amigo from Buenos Aires, Argentina, DJ kid Rich, sent me this video of the band Space.  They are a French electronic band from the city of Marseille.  This song “Magic Fly” was released in 1977 and rose to #2 on the British charts.  The band didn’t last long as they were torn apart by gravity in 1981 after selling over 10 million albums in 5 years.

I’m not sure where all the members are these days, but I’m hoping for a reunion tour!

Star Size Comparison

May 30th, 2012 | Space

It’s always nice to gain a little perspective, and while not many can truly grasp how small we are in the universe, videos such the one above, created by YouTube user morn1415, certainly help.  There’s also a version in HD.

He claims to have taken his inspiration from “Cosmos” by Carl Sagan – always a good sign.
