Electric Anatomy

July 4th, 2012 | Brain

Wow!  Here’s some 4th of July Fireworks for you!  This painting comes from artist Alex Grey — a renowned spiritual/psychedelic artist & practitioner of Tantric Buddhism.  Alex actually spent five years at Harvard Medical School working in the Anatomy department, studying the human body and preparing cadavers for dissection.  His mastery of anatomy is clearly displayed in his painting.

The New York Times described his work:

“Mr. Grey’s paintings present man as an archetypal being struggling toward cosmic unity. Grey’s vision of a flawed but perfectible mankind stands as an antidote to the cynicism and spiritual malaise prevalent in much contemporary art.”

And while his works may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it would be hard to argue against the pure energy flowing off the canvas.  One can only wonder what the bottom half of this painting would look like…

Alex and his wife are holding a Visionary Art Intensive at the Omega Institute in New York from July 29th to  August 3rd, 2012 if you are interested.

To The Far East

July 1st, 2012 | Brain, Robot, Space

Greetings RSB Faithful

To those of you who don’t know, today, I will be traveling by aeroplane across this Earth, 9243 miles to be exact!, to the land of beaches, jungles, and temples for the next 7 weeks.

Hopefully, I’ll see some things like this:

For those of you who are concerned for the future of the site, HAVE NO FEAR, RobotSpaceBrain will be FULLY operational in my time abroad.  Yes, I mean that, and ideally, I’ll be coming back in August with a renewed passion for giving you the quality scientific and artistic inspiration you’ve hopefully come to expect.

Live Long & Prosper,

Illusion Sketches by Nagai Hideyuki

June 27th, 2012 | Brain

I always enjoy a good display of illusion!  Japanese artist Nagai Hideyuki has come up with some truly impressive sketches in this series.  The style of his work reminds me of 1930s cartoons, especially the last drawing with the large print “BoMB” and teary-eyed figure.  He has a a larger collection of work over at his gallery along with some youtube videos to check out as well.

Rubik’s Brain

June 10th, 2012 | Brain

Rubik’s Cube is a 3-D mechanical puzzle invented in 1974by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik.

If you think that Rubik’s cubes are a bit too easy for you, you may want to take a crack at artist Jason Freeny’s rendition shown above.  Jason is known for displaying the inner workings of Hello Kitty and Nemo, but I think this project may be his best.  I’m not sure if this is for sale anywhere.  I did some searching around the internet but to no avail.  Please let me know if you find it anywhere.

Here’s some photos of his construction process:

Jeez, this thing looks ridiculously hard to solve… See all of the construction photos on his facebook site.

Check out more of Jason’s work at his website.

The Garden of Your Mind

Mister Rogers Remixed | Garden of Your Mind

WOW!  This is definitely the best Auto-Tuned song out there.

The Garden of Your Mind Mister Rogers mashup was created by John Boswell from the Symphony of Science — a project to deliver scientific knowledge in musical form.  I’m not sure what scientific knowledge is being given here, but it is great.  It really brings back all kinds of nostalgia for me.
