Holi Festival 2014

Holi is an ancient Hindu festival of color and love celebrated at the arrival of spring in India and Nepal. Music, dancing, and explosions of colored powder create these incredible visual landscapes. The celebration starts with a big bonfire, and the next morning, everyone runs around the city with water guns, balloons, and powder painting the city rich with color.

Several groups form impromptu musical parades with drums and other musical instruments. At the end of the day, people dress up and visit with friends and family.

It’s a wonderful place to capture photos.  I imagine it would ruin your camera, but it’s worth the risk!

Auroville

July 18th, 2012 | Space

Auroville is an idealistic, experimental city located in the Tamil Nadu state of Southern India. It was founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa (also known as “The Mother”) and designed by architect Roger Anger.

Here is the Auroville Charter:

1. Auroville belongs to nobody in particular. Auroville belongs to humanity as a whole. But to live in Auroville, one must be the willing servitor of the Divine Consciousness.

2. Auroville will be the place of an unending education, of constant progress, and a youth that never ages.

3. Auroville wants to be the bridge between the past and the future. Taking advantage of all discoveries from without and from within, Auroville will boldly spring towards future realisations.

4. Auroville will be a site of material and spiritual researches for a living embodiment of an actual Human Unity.
The writings of these visionaries, and the specific guidelines for Auroville given by the Mother are crucial for in-depth understanding of what is trying to be achieved in Auroville, a collective experiment dedicated to human unity and international understanding.

When I first saw the pictures of this place, I couldn’t believe it was real.  The symmetry of the design is absolutely stunning.  It’s reminiscent of crop circles, and I assume this is why it feels like an alien design.

Indian Robot Fight Scene

November 17th, 2011 | Robot

Is this the best robot fight scene you’ve ever scene?  I was skeptical at first, but by the end, I was won over.  The scene hails from the Indian movie, Endhiran (translates to Robot in English), and IMDB only gives it a 6.6/10.  Here is the plot summary:

Dr. Vasi (Rajnikanth) invents a super-powered robot, Chitti, in his own image. The scientific body, AIRD, that must approve the robot, declines it based on its not having emotions and the ability to make rational judgment. A sudden flash of lightning evokes emotions in the robot, and Chitti is seemingly ready for integration into the human world.
