One of the best methods to view the magnificence of Earth is to step outside the confines of gravity and get a “bird’s eye view.” These high-resolution satellite images chosen by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and printed in his new book, “Earth from Space“, display amazing patterns and textures of the ever-changing world below. Yann has a keen eye for aerial photography and is also a devoted environmental activist. In fact, a major focus of the book is a discussion of the sobering impact of pollution, deforestation, etc…
However, I am more drawn to the beauty of the selected images. It’s amazing to see how the rivers cut through the Earth and how farm land creates extensive geometric patterns.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is a month-long Halloween festival held every year at the Van Cortlandt Manor near New York City. The event features over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins crafted into a variety of incredible designs.
Here’s a word from the organizers:
“Stroll through the Tunnel O’ Pumpkin Love and witness the incredible sight of gourd-filled Jack-in-the-Boxes springing up and bouncing around. See slithering ground snakes, a giant spider web, and go gaga over a collection of shrunken Little Monsters. Gaze in amazement at a towering pumpkin bonfire and a working doomsday grandfather clock.
A giant sea serpent adds some hiss to the Undersea Aquarium while comical, squash-eating Venus pumpkin traps sprout in the garden. New dinosaur additions this year to Blaze’s perennially popular Jurassic Park include a pterodactyl and a brontosaurus.”
The sculptures are pretty amazing, so I would definitely try to check it out next year if you live in the area. Unfortunately, all of this year’s tickets have been sold out! However, you can see a whole lot more images on flickr.

Brendan Austin is a visual artist who shares his time between Europe, the United States, Africa, and Asia. His work is comprised of architectural and landscape photography taken during his many travels. The photographs are replete with supernatural and celestial undertones. I really like the “over-saturated” rockscape images; they sort of look like the surface of some toxic, extraterrestrial planet, maybe Venus?
Brendan has a very large collection of work that can be found at www.brendanaustin.com
Atelier Olschinsky is a small design studio run by Peter Olschinsky and Verena Weiss in Vienna, Austria. They’ve created these stunning pixelated cities over the past few years implementing a hybrid of architectural design and digital illustration. It feels like the sort of city a computer might design, but with a 1980’s color palette.
You can find a whole lot more of their illustrations at their Behance site.
The NAGRA IV-S is a portable stereo designed by the famous Polish audio engineer, Stefan Kudelski (the term “Nagra” means “will record” in Polish). These machines were the standard sound recording systems for motion picture and television production from the 1960’s to the 1990’s, and they are as aesthetically pleasing as they are functional. canadian pharmacy langleyrx.com no prescription
It’s really a masterpiece of recording technology. The machines are known to capture the human voice extremely well, with a natural sound, clear and open. It’s also one of the best tape transport methods — nothing touches the oxide during fast wind and the braking system is notably gentle, perfect for a tape archivist or conservator.
You unfortunately may never see a NAGRA IV-S as it’s no longer made, though used samples regularly turn up on Internet auction sites. You’ll probably have to shell out somewhere around 00 to get your hands on one. buy veklury generic gaetzpharmacy.com no prescription
Here you can see the NAGRA IV-S in action:
It’s also important to note that before the NAGRA, movie sets had to use devices that were so big that they needed several people to carry them around. The introduction of the NAGRA series brought in the wave of mobile recording. buy remdesivir generic gaetzpharmacy.com no prescription
Randy Thom, director of sound design for Skywalker Sound in Marin County, Calif., said that “it was one of the tools that made the French New Wave possible, by allowing the young directors in the late 50s and early 60s … to shoot a scene almost anywhere they could think of shooting one.”
If you do manage to get your hands on a NAGRA IV-S, I recommend this site to figure out how to use it.
