Steampunk Dies a Terrible Death

December 12th, 2011 | Robot

I really like some aspects of the Steampunk style.  If you’re not familiar with Steampunk, here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s.[1] Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually Victorian era Britain or “Wild West”-era United States—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them, based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology includes such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the contemporary authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld and China Mieville.

I had been starting to think that maybe Steampnunk was pretty awesome.  I mean, how can you go wrong when your main inspirations are from the likes of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne… And then I saw this Steampunk Iron Man outfit that someone put together, and I was feeling pretty good about it. I mean, that things looks great!

You can find more of these pictures here at forever geek.

But alas, in the end, Justin Bieber has killed Steampunk.  I don’t want to grant him that power, but there’s no question about it.  Steampunk is Dead.
