Nathaniel Rackowe is an installation artist who lives and works in London, UK. Taking a page out of the book of American Minimalism (written by the likes of Donald Judd and Dan Flavin), Rackowe creates beautiful neon installations which live in a world of abstraction.

If you’ve been reading this site for some time, you may know that we are suckers for neon installation art.

Pale Blue Dot Animated Video

December 10th, 2012 | Space

Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan

This is a new animated video of Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot” speech by Joel Somerfield (from the animation studio, Order, in East London).  It’s a moving speech and the style of the video does it justice. I’m not sure it beats out Reid Gower’s video of “The Frontier is Everywhere,” but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. It should be said, however, that a few of us are living in space right now.

‘Fireflies’ by Still Corners

Still Corners

Still Corners

Still Corners is a dream-pop group hailing from London.  I posted this song mostly because of the vocal wailings of lead singer Tessa Murray.  Her voice doesn’t sound contrived unlike many of the singers in the 80’s synth-sounding bands of today’s indie scene… and I really like how she raises her pitch at the end of each of line.  It’s damn catchy.

Check out their tumblr here.

Robots In Fashion

Gemma-Booth-Robot-1

These photographs are from London-based fashion photographer Gemma Booth.  She has made quite a name for herself over the past 10 years working for the likes of Japanese Vogue, i-D, Jalouse, Nylon and Lula.

Her photography is inspired by stories, old photos, films, books and exhibitions:

– They can all inspire, but sometimes it just comes from within, from a dream or memory.

The images have a natural warmth due to the soft light that bathes the models, and the design of the robot conjures up memories of youth that add to the nostalgic feel.

I’m not sure what brand she has helped to promote here, but think it was executed very well.
